Why has Lendwithcare started funding grants as well as loans?

Poor families worldwide are already feeling the impacts of climate change. They are seeing first-hand how unpredictable rainfall patterns cause water shortages, reduce harvests and exacerbate hunger. They are witnessing the effects of more extreme weather such as cyclones and hurricanes that destroy their homes, lives and incomes. And they have to cope with longer, more severe droughts which kill their livestock and threaten their crops.

Lendwithcare's strong ethical lending policy has focused us on supporting loans that do not have a damaging impact on the environment, and in many cases pro-actively seeking loans that promote sustainable agriculture, recycling and renewable energy. This grant funding approach will provide the opportunity to directly support projects which either prevent CO2 emissions from being released into the atmosphere, or pro-actively absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, while also creating opportunities for low-income communities.

Although we have started funding grants, this will only represent a small part of what Lendwithcare does going forward. Providing microloans to low-income entrepreneurs will remain as Lendwithcare’s main focus.
