The Team

Meet the Team

We are Lendwithcare, a dedicated team of individuals driven to providing support to low-income entrepreneurs across the globe. Although we are a small team, we are also supported by other departments within CARE International UK, including Finance, IT, Communications, and Supporter Care.

Our small team works hard to ensure you have the best experience possible supporting entrepreneurs and that your money is lent responsibly and fairly to provide entrepreneurs and their families with the best chance of working their way out of poverty.

There is a lot of work involved in facilitating more than a million loans to over 150,000 entrepreneurs while ensuring we maintain a high quality of loan profile. These profiles are written by our local development partners and edited by the Lendwithcare team as well as a dedicated group of volunteers.

Tracey Horner

I have overall responsibility for Lendwithcare and have been running the programme from its inception and launch in 2010. I have seen Lendwithcare grow from the simple idea that CARE should use its experience in microfinance to create something that connects people to make the world a better place. Previously, I was responsible for individual fundraising at CARE and prior to that I was Head of Consumer Fundraising at WWF. As well as overseeing Lendwithcare’s operation, I am responsible for raising funds from foundations, companies and individuals to enable Lendwithcare to operate effectively. One of my most memorable experiences was our first cycling trip between Vietnam and Cambodia with nine very special lenders. I'll never forget one of the Cambodian farmers welcoming some very excited lenders in cycling gear and explaining how the loan she received was helping her family to earn a living from their soya bean crop.

Nancy Thomas

I am incredibly lucky that I get to work closely with Lendwithcare’s hard-working and committed local development partners. I am responsible for the selection and management of our partners around the world, and I have a particular passion for and focus on working with our partners to help build and strengthen their social and environmental impact. I have a Master’s in Chinese Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies where I completed my thesis on the impact of peer-to-peer microloan platforms in China and I have completed a certified master’s course at the University of Greenwich on Microfinance and Financial Inclusion. I am also a certified SPI4 social auditor. Before joining CARE, I lived and worked in Beijing, China. Since joining CARE in 2011, I have been fortunate enough to meet many Lendwithcare recipients and to see firsthand the difference the loans funded through Lendwithcare can make.

Tony Jones

I have had the pleasure of working with my fellow Lendwithcare colleagues since January 2020, although I have held previous roles at CARE International UK, one of which provided me the unforgettable experience of meeting some incredible entrepreneurs supported through Lendwithcare loans in Cambodia. I have spent a little over ten years developing my career in fundraising and have worked with several international development organisations including ActionAid and Oxfam. I currently lead on Lendwithcare's marketing and communications activities, including newsletters, blog content, social media, appeals and gift voucher promotions.

Oliver New

I’m responsible for maintaining and developing the Lendwithcare website. I’ve been a professional web developer for over 20 years, during which I’ve worked on projects large and small in a diverse range of industries. I was one of the original developers of Lendwithcare when it was created in 2010 and have overseen all the major improvements to it since. By 2019 the project had grown to the point that it required full-time development, so I was only too pleased to move to CARE permanently and join the team I’d been an unofficial member of for so long. It’s a privilege being able to carry on with what has been the most rewarding project I’ve ever contributed to.

Santiago Arnaudin

I joined Lendwithcare as a consultant in September 2021. My role is to conduct regular in-country and desktop assessments of Lendwithcare partners and assist in the selection of new members. I am lucky enough to spend around a quarter of my time abroad each year working directly with our partners and visiting the small businesses that Lendwithcare has supported.

Before joining Lendwithcare, I ran Inclusion Social Ratings, a ratings agency focused on microfinance, and worked also for the Moody's Social Performance Group. I have a bachelor's degree in economics, a master's degree in the same field, a specialization in international relations, and more than 15 years of practical experience in the financial services and microfinance rating industries. I have lived and worked in Europe, North America, and South America, leading international teams and performing due diligence (social and financial ratings, safeguarding assessments, social audits, client protection certifications) in more than 30 countries.

Pilar Tejon

I joined the Lendwithcare team in May 2023, stepping into the role of Microfinance Advisor. My responsibilities involve the day-to-day management of the programme and close collaboration with our partners. Like my fellow Lendwithcare colleagues, I'm driven to provide robust support to low-income entrepreneurs, ensuring they have access to fair and appropriate financial services.

My journey to the UK commenced when I decided to pursue a Master's degree in migration and development at the School of Oriental and African Studies. After that, I co-founded a small charity in Uganda, which ignited my passion for microfinance. Witnessing the transformative impact of providing financial opportunities to vulnerable communities was a defining experience for me, which I have carried into my work for Lendwithcare. I have also had the opportunity to work at the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, where I managed governance programmes across Africa and the MENA region. This professional experience strengthened my understanding and appreciation of international development and diplomacy.

Malini Salt

I first came to know of Lendwithcare after seeing an advertisement in the newspaper. I thought that the idea of lending my money to an entrepreneur and then being able to relend that money to help other entrepreneurs was so innovative. It appealed to me so much that I became a lender. That was about 10 years ago. When I took a sabbatical from my career in the financial services sector, I became a volunteer editor for Lendwithcare. I then volunteered to help them with a finance project and here I am today, working for CARE. As Lendwithcare's Finance Manager, my role is to oversee all aspects of Lendwithcare's financials.

Anouk Stricher

I joined the Lendwithcare team in January 2024 as a Marketing Executive. My role spans a variety of responsibilities from delivering supporter communications to loan profile editing. More specifically, I have the pleasure of working closely with some Lenders turned volunteers who assist me in my work.

Prior to this role, I completed both a BA in Communication and Media and an MSc in Strategic Marketing. Throughout my education, I have had a particular interest in all things social impact and humanitarian issues. From volunteering for Unicef and Oxfam, to being on the committee of Imperial's Social Impact and Responsible Business Club, I have always had a profound interest in the field.

Lendwithcare's mission truly appeals to me as well as being able to work with partners and entrepreneurs from all over the world. Having lived in France, Australia, and the UK, I was very keen to work for an organization as international as CARE UK. I am therefore thrilled to be working for such an amazing team that is dedicated to providing support and opportunities to low-income entrepreneurs worldwide!

Caroline Tatum, Mena Orife and Mike Tomkins, the Supporter Care team

Caroline started working at CARE International UK and Lendwithcare in 2016 and has been joined by some fantastic colleagues over the years, most recently Mena Orife and Mike Tomkins. All members of the team come from different charity backgrounds and have combined their skills and experience to create our fabulous Supporter Care team. Caroline, Mena and Mike are lenders themselves and understand the Lendwithcare experience, so they are ready to provide you with any help you need when navigating Lendwithcare. They try to be as accessible as possible, so you can contact them directly during usual working hours or leave a message when they aren't around and they will aim to get back to you as soon as they can.

Trustees

As Lendwithcare is an initiative of CARE International, the operation is overseen by the CARE Board of Trustees.
