We visited in Céline at her house and she proudly showed us her new pressing machine which makes work more efficient. Céline is now producing much more oil than before in less time and with less waste. She explained that before she was earning 10,000 West African Francs (£13) per month but the machine has actually allowed her to double her monthly income (to £26) by extracting more oil from the same amount of palm nuts. During periods of intensive production, she hires up to 20 people from the village, but the average is 14 including 2 of Céline's adult children. Céline has taken many loans over 9 years and she says that this has helped her to support all her 6 children through basic education and to put food on the table. Also, she is now saving money regularly and she plans to change the roof of her house and to make other house repairs.
