When I visited Mang at his home their storage unit was bursting at the seams with bags of rice. They had just finished harvesting their rice from the rainy season and had managed to produce 12 tonnes of rice in total. Mang told me that this was better than last year and the year before (he produced 8 tonnes in both those years) because he was able to purchase sufficient fertliser with the loan he got from the microfinance institution, CCSF. This was Mang's first loan from the institution and he told me he intended on taking out another one since 12 tonnes was good but not good enough. He told me that he would like to increase his yields (and therefore his profits) because his daughter wants to train to be a beautician in Battambang town and they need to help her pay for her training.
