Mang

Loan description:

Mang Chhean is 52 years old and married with four children, who are aged between 10 and 25 years old. His three younger children are still at school while his oldest child is working. Presently Mang and his family live in Kampong Kol village, which is in Banon district, Battambang province. Mang and his wife have been farming for the past 30 years and currently farm six hectares of rice paddy. The yield from their crops gives them an average of two tonnes per hectare and one and a half tonnes of this is kept for their family's basic needs. The rest is sold out to a local trader who buys directly from the village. Mang now owns a hand tractor to help with operations on his farm and this has enabled him to farm on time and cut down some of his costs. To ensure he has a succesful yield this year, Mang has applied for a loan to buy fertiliser, diesel, insecticide, weed killer, and other farming necessities. He aims to pay this loan back over ten months and he plans to run a general store from his home for his daughter at some point next year.
