Based in Lundazi, Zambia, there is Promise group with twelve women aged in the range of twenty-six and fifty years. The women have a combined total of over one hundred and twenty dependents which include their birth children and orphaned relatives. The businesses they do to support their families include the selling of second-hand clothes (salaula), grocery shops and restaurants. These were chosen to be done because of their high-profit turn over and the ease in procuring the stock sold in them. They took out their last loan to grow their businesses and have been able to take their children to well-resourced schools and afford healthy meals for them at home. Mary Chirwa is one of the women of the Promise group and she was twenty-six at the time of the group’s last loan. She was running a fruit stall with a variety of fruits including apples, oranges and tomatoes, she has now welcomed her third child and her husband is now a certified mechanical engineer all thanks to her sponsorship from the proceeds of her business.
