Zambia
Loan description:
This loan is for a group of 12 women. They are based in the Lundazi district of eastern Zambia and are aged between 18 and 65 years old. They all run different businesses mainly selling groceries at the local market in Lundazi. Some have businesses selling salaula (second hand clothes) and most sell produce such as onions, cabbages, apples and oranges, and sausages. They would like this loan to continue selling a wide range of products and to buy new produts. They have successfully repaid four loans from the MicroLoan Foundation and have seen their lives change as a result of the profits they have made; they are able to send their children to school and provide for their families. With this loan they hope to continue growing their businesses so they can continue to support their families.
Mary Chirwa is part of this group. Mary is 26 years old, married with two children. Her business is based in the workers compound but she conducts most of her business from the Lundazi main market square. She sells products like oranges, apples, tomatoes and kapenta (small dried fish). She has seen her life change since her first loan; as her business grew she was able to support her husband who is in college. She believes this loan will help her business continue to grow so that she can provide more stability for her family.
