Ngoc Anh is a 36-year-old married mother of one school-aged child. She resides with her family in a modest home in Ha Bac, a rural coastal area located in Nghi Son town, Thanh Hoa province.
Her husband works as a construction mason and frequently travels across and beyond the province for building projects. Ngoc Anh earns her living through manual cargo handling at the regional port. Because this physical labour yields fluctuating earnings tied directly to monthly freight volume, Ngoc Anh decided to create an additional income stream for her household. Maximising her spare hours between port shifts, she runs a mobile retail trade using a small handcart, serving neighbourhood residents and docking fishermen provisioning for upcoming sea voyages.
This trading initiative has provided a vital supplementary income to stabilise her family's finances. Eager to scale her enterprise, Ngoc Anh is currently constrained by insufficient purchasing capital. To address this bottleneck, she turned to Thanh Hoa MFI, our local development partner in Vietnam, requesting microfinance assistance to purchase 5 cartons of biscuits, 8 cartons of assorted candies, 200 cartons of instant noodles, and 100 cartons of bottled beverages to enrich her retail selection. Ngoc Anh is optimistic that this broader merchandise assortment will attract a wider maritime and residential clientele, steadily boosting her household earnings.
