Lien

Lien is a 53‑year‑old woman from an ethnic minority community, currently living in a remote and disadvantaged mountainous commune of Cam Thuy District, Thanh Hoa Province. Although all three of her sons are grown and independent, she continues to work tirelessly to maintain her own economic self‑reliance.

With more than 35 years of experience in agriculture, Lien combines livestock raising, crop cultivation, and occasional freelance labour to earn a living. Despite her diligence, the family remains in the low‑income group due to geographic isolation and limited infrastructure. Refusing to be discouraged, Lien actively seeks out knowledge from successful fruit‑growing models in her community, as she is determined to improve her household’s livelihood.

As a committed member now entering her fourth loan cycle with our local partner, Thanh Hoa MFI, Lien has already demonstrated remarkable perseverance by effectively using previous loans to gradually enhance her family’s living standards. To overcome geographic disadvantages and optimize the use of her mountainous land, she is determined to expand her fruit orchard. For this purpose, she has applied for financing to purchase 300 longan seedlings, 250 mango seedlings, 100 pomelo seedlings, and 100 bags of organic fertiliser. This investment will not only strengthen the health and productivity of her orchard but also represents a sustainable agricultural approach that is well suited to the local soil conditions.

Looking to the future, Lien believes that an expanded orchard will generate higher income, helping her family offset the challenges of distance and isolation. Success in this business cycle will allow her to accumulate sufficient resources to acquire new farming tools and equipment, thereby reducing labour intensity and increasing efficiency.
