Emanyareni 5 Group from Rumphi is a group of five entrepreneurs working together to improve their families’ livelihoods through farming and small businesses. The group consists of three married members and two divorced members, who together support 15 children. Their activities include selling vegetables, fish, tomatoes, snacks, groceries, livestock, and farming. Through group lending, the members support one another, share ideas, and invest in their businesses to create better opportunities

Ruty, a member of the Emanyareni 5 Group, is a 26-year-old widow and mother of four who has been running a grocery business for the past two years. She started the business to provide for her family's basic needs and, through hard work and determination, has steadily grown it into a reliable source of income. Ruty is now seeking additional capital to increase her stock, expand her grocery store and work towards her long-term goal of building a home for her family.

The members of Emanyareni 5 Group plan to use their loan shares to support the growth of their small businesses and farming activities. Members will use the funds to purchase additional stock and resources for trading vegetables, fish, tomatoes, snacks, groceries and livestock, as well as investing in agricultural production. Access to this capital will enable the group to expand their enterprises, increase their incomes and strengthen their families' financial security, creating a more sustainable future for their households.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
