Malawi
Please note that there is currently an acute shortage of hard currency (USD, GBP, Euros etc) in Malawi and repayments may be subject to delay. We are working hard with our local partners in Malawi to ensure repayments are returned to lenders on time.
Kachokolo 5 Group is a dedicated group of female entrepreneurs from Ntchisi who are improving their livelihoods through snack sales, vegetable businesses, farming, clothing sales, and agrobusiness activities. The five married members support a total of 13 children and work together by sharing experiences, encouraging one another, and strengthening their businesses to create better opportunities for their families.
Monica is a 33 year old married mother of three who has been running her clothing business for the past four years. She started it to help provide her family with basic needs and has continued to grow her enterprise through commitment and determination. Her business also provides an opportunity for one family member to assist with daily activities, helping her manage the demands of the business.
Monica plans to use this loan to increase her business capital by purchasing more clothes for resale, allowing her to improve stock availability and offer a wider range of products to her customers. Her long-term goal is to build her own house, creating a secure and stable future for her family.
The other members of Kachokolo 5 Group will use their share of the loan to strengthen the different businesses operated by its members. The funds will help the women invest in farming and agrobusiness activities, increase trading stock, and expand enterprises such as snack production, vegetable sales, and clothing businesses. Through this group loan, members will have the opportunity to grow their businesses, improve their income sources, and continue supporting their families while working together towards achieving their individual and shared goals.
The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
