Chawanangwa 2 is a united group of five married entrepreneurs from Kasungu who are building stronger futures through small-scale trading. Their activities range from selling snacks, vegetables, clothes, running grocery businesses, and livestock trading. Together, they support 31 dependents, working as a team to ensure a steady income and improved living standards for their families.

Ellen is a 47 year old married woman and a dedicated member of Chawanangwa 2 group. She is married to a businessman and is the mother of two children. For the past 10 years, Ellen has been actively engaged in selling clothes and fish, a business she started to help her family meet daily needs and achieve self-reliance.

Over time, her business has grown into a reliable source of income, with the support of one family member who assists her in daily operations. Ellen continues to strengthen her trade with the vision of building a permanent house for her family, a milestone that represents stability and long-term security.

Chawanangwa 2 group has applied for a loan to boost and expand their various income-generating activities. Ellen plans to use her share of the loan to purchase additional clothing stock and fish supplies, allowing her to meet growing customer demand and increase her profits. Other group members will invest in their respective businesses such as groceries, snacks, vegetables, and livestock trading.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
