Malawi
Please note that there is currently an acute shortage of hard currency (USD, GBP, Euros etc) in Malawi and repayments may be subject to delay. We are working hard with our local partners in Malawi to ensure repayments are returned to lenders on time.
Phiinduu 2 Group is a hardworking group of five married entrepreneurs from Salima who operate a range of businesses including fish trading, grocery stores, tailoring, and clothing sales. Combined, they support 20 dependents and are committed to creating sustainable sources of income that improve the well-being of their families. The group aims to build stronger and more resilient livelihoods through their teamwork.
Esther, one of the members of the group, is a 38-year-old entrepreneur married to a businessman and a proud mother of five children. For the past eight years, she has been running a grocery store, a business she established to help provide food, school fees, and other essential needs for her family.
Over time, Esther has gained valuable experience in serving her customers and managing her stock. Her grocery business has become an important source of income, helping her household maintain stability and meet daily expenses. Although she does not employ any workers, she receives support from a family member who assists her with business operations when needed.
Esther remains focused on expanding her enterprise and increasing her earnings. She believes that a larger, better-stocked business will allow her to serve more customers, improve her family's financial position, and create greater opportunities for her children's future.
Phiinduu 2 Group is requesting a loan to strengthen their various businesses. The members will use the funds to restock their enterprises with the products, materials, and supplies required to meet customer demand and increase sales. This includes supporting grocery stores, fish businesses, tailoring activities, and clothing sales.
The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
