The group of women - Phiinduu 1 - are from Salima and earn their livelihoods through a variety of small businesses, including fish trading, grocery shops, restaurants, clothing sales, snacks, and vegetable businesses. The group consists of four married members and one divorced member, and together they support 16 dependents as well as two orphans. Their diverse businesses and strong teamwork help create opportunities for growth and financial security within their community.

Alice, one of the members of Phiinduu 1, is a 31-year-old entrepreneur. She is married to a chef and is a devoted mother of three children. For the past six years, she has been running a business selling snacks, vegetables, and potatoes, which she started to help provide for her family's basic needs and ensure that her children could attend school without interruption.

Over the years, Alice has built a loyal customer base and developed valuable business skills. With support from one family member, she manages her enterprise and works hard to keep it growing despite the challenges that small business owners often face. The income she earns contributes significantly to her household and helps improve her family's quality of life.

Alice has ambitious plans for the future, including building a good house with an iron-sheet roof, purchasing cows as a long-term investment, and expanding her business so that it can generate even greater income for her family.

Phiinduu 1 Group is requesting a loan to strengthen and expand their various income generating activities. Members will use the funds to restock their businesses with the products and supplies needed to meet customer demand and increase sales. Whether operating grocery stores, restaurants, fish businesses, clothing ventures, or produce stalls, each member will invest in growing their enterprise.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
