Malawi
Please note that there is currently an acute shortage of hard currency (USD, GBP, Euros etc) in Malawi and repayments may be subject to delay. We are working hard with our local partners in Malawi to ensure repayments are returned to lenders on time.
In Ntcheu, Katsala 4 Group brings together five committed married entrepreneurs who are building stronger futures through farming, livestock keeping, and the sale of Irish potatoes and vegetables. Collectively, they support 17 dependents and work as a united team where each member’s progress contributes to the stability and growth of the entire group.
Chrissy is a young and energetic 22-year-old woman, married to a farmer and raising three children of her own. Despite her young age, she has already spent six years involved in farming, livestock keeping, and selling Irish potatoes and vegetables—a journey she began early with the goal of helping her household meet essential daily needs.
Through her farming activities, Chrissy has developed a strong understanding of agricultural production and small-scale trading. She manages her work with the support of one family member, ensuring her farm remains active and productive throughout the seasons. Her efforts continue to provide food and income for her family, while also building her confidence as an entrepreneur.
Chrissy dreams of improving her family’s living conditions by constructing a good and lasting house. At the same time, she is motivated to see her business grow into a more stable and expanded enterprise that can support her long-term goals.
Katsala 4 Group has requested a loan to strengthen their farming and livestock businesses as well as their vegetable and Irish potato trading activities. The funds will be used to purchase essential farm inputs, including livestock feeds and quality agricultural supplies that will improve production and productivity.
The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
