Khothi 8 Group

In Ntcheu, the Khothi 8 group is working together to improve livelihoods through farming. The group is made up of five married members who collectively support sixteen children. With a shared loan, they are investing in agriculture to strengthen their incomes and create more stable futures for their families.

Martha is forty-one years old and married to a farmer. She supports two relatives. Martha grows tomatoes and will use her share of the loan to buy fertiliser and seeds to increase her production and income.

Martha has been running her farming business for the past ten years, and, despite her limited resources, has managed to build up experience. This loan will allow her to expand her farmland and grow her business, bringing her closer to her long-term goals.

As part of Khothi 8, Martha benefits from the shared support and accountability of her group. Members work together, encouraging one another and ensuring progress for all. This means the loan not only supports Martha but also contributes to the wellbeing of the entire group, their families and their community.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
