Loan description:

Koffi, 29, is a young, dynamic entrepreneur who is married with two small children. One of his children is 4 years old and the other is 9 months old. His eldest child goes to the local primary school and his wife works in IT. Koffi used to manage a petrol station, but for the past six years he has made a living by selling wooden boards. This trade is regulated by the forestry authorities in order to combat illegal deforestation. In fact, all of Koffi’s suppliers have been awarded a timber harvesting license by the relevant authorities. After buying his supplies in the hills of the Badou province, Koffi transports his goods to his warehouse in Atakpame, which is situated opposite the offices of the microfinance institution WAGES. Koffi employs two people who are essential to the running of his business, especially when he is in the countryside getting supplies. His clientele is primarily made up of joiners and building professionals. Koffi has been working with WAGES since he moved close to the organisation’s offices in Atakpame. He signed up to WAGES straight away, but then waited a while before requesting his first loan. This loan of 700, 000 West African francs, which will be paid back in 12 monthly instalments, will enable him to buy whitewood, redwood and herringbone boards. Koffi’s short-term plan is to set up a saw-mill so that he will be able to prepare the wood for processing. This will allow him to increase his profits and improve his family’s way of life.
