Please note that there is currently an acute shortage of hard currency (USD, GBP, Euros etc) in Malawi and repayments may be subject to delay. We are working hard with our local partners in Malawi to ensure repayments are returned to lenders on time.

The Chitimbe 10 Group is made up of five married women who farm maize and beans to feed their families and earn a living. Together, they support 20 children. This loan means the women are able to invest in their farms while working together and supporting one another. The loan supports all members of the group.

One of the members of the group is called Mainess. She is 40 years old, is married and cares for five children. She has been growing maize for five years and her portion of the loan will allow her to buy fertilizer. Her goal is to improve her harvest, ensure enough food for her family, and eventually build a house.

The Microloan Foundation is Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi. It employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
