Malawi
Please note that there is currently an acute shortage of hard currency (USD, GBP, Euros etc) in Malawi and repayments may be subject to delay. We are working hard with our local partners in Malawi to ensure repayments are returned to lenders on time.
The Chitimbe 7 Group is made up of five married women who grow maize and beans to support their households. Together, they care for 15 children. With this loan, the group intend to invest in their farms, working together and sharing support so that their improved harvests will benefit every family in the group.
One of the women in the group, Sellina, is 49 years old and a mother of three children. She has been growing maize for four years to ensure her family has enough food. Sellina has planned to use her portion loan to buy fertilizer, helping her increase production. Her goal is to open a grocery shop, creating additional income while also supporting one family member through employment.
The Microloan Foundation is Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi. It employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
