Malawi
The women of Mchenga 3 Group work together through maize farming to secure food for their families. The group has five members, some married and others separated, supporting 17 dependents. With a loan, each woman will improve her own maize farm while supporting one another through shared labour and advice, allowing the benefits of the loan to reach the whole group.
The featured member, Maggie, is 43 years old and separated, supporting three children. She has been growing maize for four years to ensure her family has enough food. Maggie plans to use her portion of the loan to buy fertiliser, herbicides, and seed, helping her increase yields.
With better harvests, Maggie hopes to have adequate food for her household. By supporting this loan, you are helping not only Maggie, but also the entire Mchenga 3 Group work toward food security and a more stable future.
The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
