Hop is a 48 year old woman, married with 2 children, her eldest daughter is grown up, the second daughter is in university. Hop and her family currently live in the remote mountainous district of Cam Thuy, Thanh Hoa.
Hop's husband is a freelancer and mainly works as a construction worker, so his income is erratic. In addition to farming, Hop also sells dried vegetables such as garlic, shallots, ginger, etc. at local markets. Hop's husband helps her with the business, transporting goods from intermediaries to their stalls. They plan to invest in this business when the market demand is high.
Hop has applied for a sixth loan from our local partner, Thanh Hoa MFI, to buy 1200 kg of dried shallots, 1200 kg of dried garlic and 600 kg of onions. Hop's previous loan cycle, funded by lenders through Lendwithcare, has been used very effective, supplementing the working capital that was lacking in her business. In the future, she will sell fresh agricultural products such as carrots, cabbage, etc. to diversify her products.
