Malawi
Please note that there is currently an acute shortage of hard currency (USD, GBP, Euros etc) in Malawi and repayments may be subject to delay. We are working hard with our local partners in Malawi to ensure repayments are returned to lenders on time.
Tigo 7 is a group of five hardworking women from the Rumphi district in Malawi. They women run small businesses such as selling fish, snacks, vegetables, and clothes. They works together closely, so the MK1,150,000 loan will not only support the featured client but also help the other members strengthen their businesses.
One of the women in the group, Maria, is 41 years old, married, and a mother of five. She has been selling tomatoes for three years. She started this business to help meet her family’s financial needs and ensure her children are well supported.
With her share of the loan, Maria plans to buy more tomatoes so she can increase her stock and serve more customers. This will help her grow her income and move towards her goal of expanding her business in the coming years.
The loan will help Maria and the rest of the group improve their businesses, support their families, and build better futures together.
The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
