The Timvane 1 Group from Lilongwe is a team of five hardworking women who support each other in running their various businesses including farming and selling snacks, vegetables and clothing. Together, they care for 22 children and are committed to improving their families’ lives through hard work and cooperation.
One member of the group is Jowana. She is 51 years old and married to a driver. She has three children and also supports two relatives. For the past ten years, she has been engaged in farming, which provides food and income for her household.
A previous Lendwithcare loan helped her to build a rental house, which now provides essential extra income.
With her share of this new loan, Jowana plans to buy a water pump to improve irrigation on her farm and boost crop production. Her dream is to continue expanding her business so she will be able to buy her own farm one day.
This loan will not only help Jowana achieve her goals but will also support the other Timvane 1 Group members as they invest in their businesses and continue working together to lift their families out of poverty.
The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
