Lien is 60 years old, married, and a mother of four children, three of whom are grown-up and have their own families. She and her husband live in a coastal village in Thanh Hoa province.
Lien has worked in seafood processing at local factories and the fishing port for over 15 years. She resourcefully utilises the processing waste to feed her poultry, which helps improve their family's meals, with any surplus being sold for extra income. Leveraging the fresh seafood readily available from the returning fishermen, she also runs a seafood trading business, drawing on over 15 years of experience. Her discerning selection of fresh, high-quality seafood has ensured her stall maintains a loyal customer base.
However, the lack of capital is the greatest barrier to expanding her business, especially as year-end market demand rises. This shortage of funds to purchase stock and scale-up operations is a significant concern for her. Therefore, Lien is applying for her ninth loan from Thanh Hoa MFI—a local partner of Lendwithcare—with the goal of purchasing an additional 400kg of mackerel and 200kg of shrimp for resale, allowing her to better serve customer needs. She hopes that increased patronage will follow, helping her significantly improve her family's income.
