Malawi
Please note that there is currently an acute shortage of hard currency (USD, GBP, Euros etc) in Malawi and repayments may be subject to delay. We are working hard with our local partners in Malawi to ensure repayments are returned to lenders on time.
In Sapezeka Village, five hardworking women formed the Luntha 3 Group, running small businesses in grocery stores, farming, restaurants, clothing, and sugarcane production to support their families. Together, they care for 14 children and 2 orphans, striving every day to provide food, education, and a brighter future for their households.
One member, Agnes, is 35 years old, married to a shoemaker, and supports four children, one orphan, and two relatives. For the past three years, she has been farming and selling snacks to meet her family’s needs. From the group loan, Agnes will use her portion to buy more stock for her snack business so she can increase her profits and eventually diversify into buying and selling grains.
The other members will also use their shares of the loan to grow their own businesses, helping the entire group boost their incomes, support their children’s education, and improve living standards across all households.
The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
