Pasavute 1 comprises five enterprising married women from Kachisa, in Malawi’s Dowa District, who collectively care for 14 dependent children. Driven by a shared commitment to strengthening their families’ futures, they run an impressive range of microbusinesses — from snack stands and fresh produce stalls to fish sales, clothing shops, grocery stores, and restaurants. Their unity and entrepreneurial grit stand as a powerful testament to the transformative impact of mutual support and hard work

Fyness, a devoted 44-year-old mother of seven, is a seasoned entrepreneur who has built a reliable snack-selling business over the years. Her enterprise is essential not only for meeting her family’s day-to-day needs but also for sustaining her children’s education.

With her share of the group loan, Fyness plans to buy key ingredients—such as cooking oil and baking flour—in bulk. This smart investment will help her maintain a consistent product supply, reduce per-unit costs, and boost her profit margins. Likewise, her fellow group members will use their portions to replenish stock and scale up their individual ventures.

The Microloan Foundation, Lendwithcare's local partner in Malawi employs a unique 'centre' model for lending to female entrepreneurs. A centre comprises several sub-groups which share the same name as the centre. As such, you may have seen similarly named group loans from Malawi all belonging to the same centre. In this system, each woman is individually responsible for repaying her loan, but the group offers mutual support by assuming overall responsibility together.
