Yaun

Yaun is a 57-year-old farmer living in the rural countryside of Buriram Province, Thailand. She is married and lives with her husband, an older sibling, and three adult children. The family mainly relies on agricultural work and labour services to earn a living. In addition, Yaun runs a small cattle farm to supplement the household income.

A lifelong farmer, Yaun has depended on rice farming for much of her life. However, the income from rice alone has not been enough to cover all household expenses. To improve her family’s financial situation, she began raising cattle for meat production two years ago. Since then, her small cattle farm has grown steadily. While most of her cattle are sold to livestock traders, she has recently attracted interest from local farmers seeking healthy calves for breeding, thanks to the reputation she’s built for raising strong, fast-growing livestock.

With demand for calves on the rise, Yaun now hopes to expand her farm by focusing more on breeding. Selling calves is faster than raising cattle to maturity and provides quicker returns. With the rainy season approaching, she also needs to prepare by stocking up on straw bales to feed her herd. To support her efforts, Yaun has applied for a loan to purchase a high-quality breeding cow, bulk straw bales, and materials to construct an additional barn for storage. She believes this investment will help grow her cattle business and provide a more stable, secure future for her family.
