Vietnam
Van is 54 years old, married and has 3 children. Two of her children are independent, and one is going to school. Her family lives in Hai Binh ward, a coastal area of Nghi Son town, Thanh Hoa province.
Van's husband is a fisherman, continuing the family's traditional occupation. The family's livelihood depends heavily on the sea, with income fluctuating based on weather conditions and the catch from each trip. Van works daily in seafood processing for local workshops, which is her primary source of income. She also sells local seafood at the village market to supplement her family's living expenses.
Despite her efforts, sometimes the family's income is insufficient to cover their living expenses, placing them among the low-income households in the area. As the Lunar New Year approaches, the demand for goods increases. However, limited family funds are a significant obstacle to expanding her business activities.
Van has applied for a new loan from Thanh Hoa MFI, our local partner, to purchase 500kg of fish and 350kg of shrimp for trading. This is her eighth loan from Thanh Hoa MFI. Previous loans have helped her family improve their living conditions. This loan will provide her with additional capital to expand her business, creating more income for her family. The loan will be repaid in 12 monthly instalments.
In the future, Van hopes for a healthy and happy family, better business outcomes, and higher prices for their products.
