Nguyen is 35 years old, married, with two school-aged children. She and her husband live with her mother-in-law in Hai Binh ward, a coastal village in Nghi Son Town, Thanh Hoa Province. Fishing and related activities are the main sources of income for the local residents.
Nguyen's husband is a fisherman, whose livelihood depends heavily on the weather and the sea's bounty. She sells seafood from home. Her customers include local residents as well as buyers from other provinces. Besides selling the seafood her husband catches, she also buys from other local fishermen to increase her income.
The family's limited financial resources are not enough to buy additional stock for expanding the business. Nguyen has therefore applied for her seventh loan from Thanh Hoa MFI, our local partner, where she has been a loyal member since 2019. Previous loans have helped her family improve their economic situation and living standards. This loan will be used to purchase an additional 500kg of fish and 150kg of squid to sell for extra income. She hopes it will help her invest in expanding her inventory to better serve the community. The loan will be repaid in 12 monthly instalments.
In the future, Nguyen hopes for a healthy, happy family, improved business outcomes, and higher prices for her products.
