Lamyon is a 61-year-old married woman residing in a suburban area of Surin province, Thailand. Her family includes her husband, elderly mother, two grown children, and a 4-year-old grandchild. While her husband is a farmer, Lamyon works as a weaver and raises cattle to supplement the family's income.
Lamyon began her journey in silk weaving early on, influenced by her mother's occupation in creating beautiful textiles for livelihood. Moreover, when she was young, Lamyon often wove silk cloth as a hobby. As she grew older, she transformed this passion into a business, which has been her primary source of income for many decades. Her silk products are primarily sold to local textile merchants who visit her home monthly to purchase her products. However, Lamyon’s current traditional loom is limiting her production capacity, making it challenging to keep up with the increasing orders.
To enhance her ability to meet demand, Lamyon has applied for a loan to purchase a new loom, bulk silk thread, colour dyes, and other essential weaving tools. This investment will not only improve her production speed but also allow her to diversify her offerings with new patterns and designs. In the future, Lamyon hopes to expand her silk-weaving business, ensuring its sustainability and securing a better livelihood for her family.
