Vietnam
Mai is 51 years old and lives with her husband in Quang Thanh commune, a suburban area of Thanh Hoa city. She has two adult children who are independent. She and her husband are workers in local factory.
Mai and her husband, both factory workers for nearly 20 years, bring home a combined monthly income of approximately £466. In recent years, the economic downturn has led to a decrease in orders at the factory where they work, adversely affecting their family’s income. Consequently, despite their long-standing desire to renovate their home, financial constraints have prevented them from doing so. The most pressing concern is their deteriorating bathroom, which has become unsafe and unsanitary for daily use.
Mai has therefore applied for her first loan cycle from Thanh Hoa MFI, our local development partner in Vietnam, to buy cement, sand, other materials and pay wages for some of the builders to build a new bathroom by replacing the unhygienic toilet the family has been using.
