Kieu, aged 61, lost her husband over a year ago, and all her children are now grown and leading their own lives. She lives with her son's family in the rural area of Nong Cong district. Kieu's main source of income comes from working as a domestic helper for families in the region. To supplement her income, she is engaged in animal husbandry, raising cows that she sells to local traders. Despite the hard work, her income is just enough for a modest living.
Kieu wants to expand her cattle herd but lacks the necessary capital to invest in the venture. She has therefore requested a loan from our local development partner in Vietnam, Thanh Hoa MFI. With the loan and her savings, she will purchase four female calves, each priced at approximately $744 (£585). She plans to raise the cows, allowing them to give birth to young ones, and then sell the offspring to local traders.
Through the support of lenders, she hopes to enhance her cow-raising business, creating opportunities for a more sustainable income and a better quality of life.
