Finca Organica Bosques de Gaia

Bosques de Gaia organic farm, is a venture that will provide certified and quality organic seed for new producers. This enterprise is run by Francisco who will be a local supplier of ginger seeds. Francisco has more than 12 years’ experience in organic production and the farm is part of the plots that are certified to provide these raw materials to Lendwithcare’s local partner in Nicaragua.

Francisco is requesting finance to receive enough ginger seed to establish one Manzana (just under 2 acres) of seed production at Bosques de Gaia Organic Farm. The seed will be organic and high quality and he is hoping that his farm will become a reliable production base for high quality seed in the local area. At the moment, local farmers are having to import these seeds from abroad and this is adding a lot of extra cost to their farming activities. Once established a plot of land can produce between 7,726 and 9,900 kg of seed. The objective of Lendwithcare's local partner, DOSELVA, besides processing and exporting different varieties of spices, is to help grow primary production so that local farmers don't need to rely on importing expensive seeds from abroad. For this reason, part of the work of the Agribusiness team in Nicaragua, is to define plots for seed production, these plots are chosen taking into account the health of the crop, the conditions of crop management and the purity of the genetic material. With this loan, Francisco will not receive cash but the seeds and fungicides he requires to establish this plot. With this loan, he will also receive monthly visits from a technical advisor to help guide him on the needs of the crop, to certify it and to eventually buy the crop. Francisco will repay this loan in two installments over two years, each payment falling due once he has produced enough seed to sell.
