Hoan is 39 years old and lives with her husband and two children in a coastal region of Vietnam. While her children go to school and her husband works as a manual labourer, Hoan operates a small seafood business to provide for her family.
Every day, Hoan wakes up early to go to the harbour where she buys seafood from local fisherman, and she quickly transports the fresh seafood to the local market by motorbike. She then spends the day making sales and estimates that she earns around $230 a month to provide for her family.
At present, Hoan’s husband’s work as a manual labourer is unstable, and they have decided to invest in the seafood business in order to ensure that their income is protected. Hoan has therefore requested a loan to purchase more fish as she is confident she will be able to increase her sales at the market.
Both Hoan and her husband are hopeful that this investment hope that this investment will ensure that the family continue to earn a good income and can one day send their children to college as a result.
