Lien is 56 years old and lives with her family in a coastal region called Nghi Son. Her husband works as a security guard for a local factory, and her children are bow all married with children.
To earn a living, Lien has a regular job working for a fish factory. In addition to the wage she earns from her job, she also buys fish from local fisherman and sells them to traders to ear a profit. While this provides an extra income for the household, her income is also heavily dependent on the weather as this impacts the number of trips fisherman are likely to make.
Lien would like to focus on her small business more, but she lacks working capital and this can sometimes mean that she isn’t in the best position to acquire a large amount of stock. She has therefore requested a loan so she can purchase a larger amount of fish from local fisherman to earn a profit.
