Chamren But is 60 years old and married with four children. The first and second sons are married and have their own separate households in another province. The third daughter is 25 years old and has completed high school and the youngest daughter is 24 years old and is married. Chamren’s family lives in Popeal Koe village, Otaki commune, Thmor korl district, Battambang province. Chamren is a member of the Chrey Credit Union. Chamren together with his wife own a small cafe. He has been selling breakfast, porridge, coffee and noodle soup, for the past two years in front of his house. Everyday he rises early in the morning at around 4 am and soon after opens the café. Chamren café is becoming more well known and he has gradually increased the number of meals he serves each day. He reckons that he makes a profit of between US$10 and $15 per day. He has applied for a loan from the Chrey Credit Union in order to purchase new tables and chairs for his cafe. He intends to repay the loan over 12 months.
