Eva Gamboa is 51 years old, married with eight children. Five of her children graduated college while the remaining three still attends school. Her husband is Miguel who works as a seafarer for many years now. The family lives peacefully in the village of Luray I, Toledo city in Cebu province. Eva mostly stayed in the house to take care of their children and household chores. Since her children are now teenagers Eva decided to run a restaurant business to help her husband in dealing with their finances.
Eva has been operating a restaurant business for more than two years now. She rented a vacant space near the main road in the village of Sangi, Toledo. She beautified the space to make it more attractive looking. Customers can dine-in comfortably inside the cafe. There is a television to entertain them while they eat. She serves breakfast to lunch and closes until their dishes are sold-out. During the pandemic months her cafe was closed. She was only allowed to open her cafe in September. She employs one full time female worker who has been working for her since she started the business. Two of her sons are also helping in the cafe, one is grilling pork while the other son is the one who takes customer's orders. Her daily average sales is 5,000 pesos (£78.20).
To access more working capital for her business, Eva joined the MFI-Lamac and she has repaid one previous loan. She applied for another loan for two reasons. First is to use the loan to pay the tuition of her three children; one child attend 2nd year college while the other two are senior high students. All of them are attending online classes. Her children can still help in the cafe during their vacation days. The remaining funds will be use to buy her ingredients needed for her everyday dishes. She also bought some kitchen utensils and cleaning materials like floor disinfectants and hand alcohol.
Eva hopes and pray for her business to keep progressing with the help of the loans she gets. Her future income will surely help her and husband Miguel to cater all their living expenses and continuously send their children to finish college.
