Chimombo Group is comprised of 24 women. All are married except for two who are widows and one who is divorced and they all care for children of their own. The women run different small businesses selling fish, snacks, vegetables, groceries, and clothes, and some run restaurants, to earn a living and provide for their families. Judith is a member. Aged 34 and married with four children, she also cares for two relatives. Her husband works as an operations officer whilst she sells second hand clothes.
The Group accessed a first loan which enabled them to buy products and improve their businesses. They seek a new, four month loan to buy more products and raw materials so they can boost their businesses. Judith will receive a share of the loan which will enable her to pay for second hand clothes and zitenje (wrappers). The proceeds from the business will enable her to feed her family. She started the business to support her husband in providing for their family and has been running it for 3 years. One of her family members works in the business with her. Judith's ambition is to complete educating her children and to expand her business. The previous loan has enabled her to pay school fees for her children and feed her family.
