Chiwunganya Group is a group of 20 women. The majority are married and have the care of 50 children and orphans between them. They mostly have market stalls selling food such as fish, snacks, groceries and vegetables. They started their businesses for different reasons for example, wanting to support their families and having enough food. Jessy is one member of the group and is aged 40, married with six children and her husband works as a social welfare officer. Jessy sells groceries and zitenje (wrappers).
The Group has accessed two previous loans from LWC which have been repaid. These loans enabled them to invest in their businesses which have changed for the better. They have requested another loan to be able to buy stock in bulk. Jessy, for example, would use her portion of the group loan to buy more zitenje (wrappers) for her shop. She started the business four years ago to earn an income and support her family. Her goal is to educate her children.
