Nicolas Adillol is a 54 year married man from Tuburan. He lives together with his wife and their adopted one and a half year old child. A successful farmer he is also very active in local community affairs. For the past 15 years he has been a public servant, that is an elected local councilor. However, his current term will be his last and he wishes to increase his focus on his business. He has a range of agricultural enterprises, including rearing cattle, pigs, and chickens. He also had bee hives and produced and sold honey but the heavy rains this year destroyed this venture. Importantly, Nicolas provides waged employment for a number of relatives who he employs looking after the cattle.The cows produce milk which is sold while the pigs are fattened and sold for their meat. Since his business is progressing well, Nicolas wants to purchase better quality cattle and expand production. He is looking for a loan the equivalent of US$2,441, part of which will be used to improve the corrals in which the animals are housed at night. He expects that if his business grows he will also take on extra staff, this is extremely important he considers because many of the poorest in his community find it difficult to get employment.
