The Tikondwere group is made up of 26 women based in the Mangochi district. All of them are married, have children and also care for orphans. Most of these children attend school. The women run various small businesses mainly selling vegetables, fish, snacks, groceries and clothes. They have requested this loan to pay for more products and restock their businesses.
One member of the group is Margaret, who is 60 years old. She is married with 1 child and 3 orphans who rely upon her. Her husband runs his own small business. She sells fritters and now requires her share of the loan to pay for flour, cooking oil and transport. She started the business to lift her family out of poverty and support them financially. Her future goal is to own a grocery shop. She also plans to buy 2 mattresses.
