Zambia
Loan description:
This is a group loan for the Umodzi group which is based in the Katete district of Zambia. This group has a membership of 13 women aged between 20 and 45 years. These women have children who are in school and they also look after school going orphans. The women of this group run small scale businesses like market and grocery stalls. They started their businesses for different reasons but mainly to reduce poverty levels in their households and to be able to send their children to school. Vasty Phiri is a member of this group. She is 41 years old, married and has four children who are in school. She runs a market stall selling plastic kitchenware, which she orders from Malawi and sells them on retail to people in her community. She has had this business for a number of years now and she has no plans of changing this business because the business is now well established. She is requesting this loan to order more stocks of plastic buckets from Malawi. She hopes to see her business grow and be able to sustain her family through it. From the profits of her previous sales she has been able to build a family house and she now hopes to build her own stall where she will be working from and not to be renting.
