Loan description:

Tha Long is 51 years old and married to Chorvon Yim. Presently they have five children, aged between 13 and 26 years old; only the youngest is attending the local primary school as the elder ones find their own jobs. They live in Roung village, Cheng Meanchey commune in Banon district, Batambang province. For 20 years, they have spent their lives living as farmers; at the moment they farm four hectares of rice paddy, which gives them a yield of around two tons per hectare. They use two tons of this for their basic needs while the remainder is sold to traders. Aside from farming rice, they have also been farming sesame on six hectares for the last year and the yield is about one ton for the whole six hectares. As they require more working capital, they decided to request an eight months loan in order to pay for ploughing costs, buy insecticide, weed killer and good quality seeds (both rice and sesame).
