Bosnia-Herzegovina
Loan description:
Djerdji Merdjanovic is 55 years old and married. She lives in Hadzici to the west of the capital Sarajevo. After the Bosnian War, Djerdi and her husband both lost their jobs as the company where they were working ceased to operate. They decided therefore to start raising livestock as they have some land around their home. They also have two small greenhouses where they grow vegetables largely for their own consumption. They have both goats and chickens and produce and sell milk, eggs and meat mainly to neighbours and others in their local community. Additionally, they also raise Californian earthworms which are used as bait in fishing. They sell them to two specialist fishing shops in Sarajevo. Djerdji applied for a loan from the microcredit foundation 'Women for Women International' in order to buy a small used van. They already have some savings but will combine these with the loan in order to make the purchase. The van will be used for making deliveries.
Loan added: 30 December 2011
