Loan description:
Khon Soeurn is 49 years old and married with two children. They are 9 and 6 years old respectively. They both attend a local school. They live in O Kam Bot village which is in Ek Phnom district in Battambang province. Khon and her husband, Saren Yin who is 40, have worked as farmers for the past 15 years or so. They own 4,800 square metres of rice paddy which provides them with a yield of about one tonne. They keep about 300 kilograms for their own consumption and the remainder they sell to the local rice miller. After harvest the rice, they plant maize and cucumbers on the same land. They sell this to local merchants. In order to facilitate transportation, particularly of the rice, Khon has sought a loan in order to buy a small boat. Khon intends to repay the loan over five months. Next year, Khon plans to rent more land to grow rice.
