We met Adakou on 15 February 2011 to ask how her business was progressing and how the loan had helped her.
Her business is going very well, She used the loan to buy sacks of Maize with which she makes cookies and donuts. We tasted both and they were very nice, although not sweet enough for my taste as no sugar is added. Before the loan she only sold rice and didn't make much money.; She still sells rice in the mornings but now sells the cookies (which look like pretzels) and donuts in the afternoon. She now makes around $100 per week which is a good enough wage to keep her school age children in school and now also her grandchildren as well.
