Update from Jasmin Guevarra

Update from Jasmin Guevarra

We visited Jasmin Guevarra on the 14th October 2013 at her residence in the town of Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija province. She has been a client of the microfinance organisation ASKI for almost 2 years and has received several short term loans including her lendwithcare financed loan. She invested the proceeds of her loan in buying piglets, purchasing feeds and reconstructing her pig pens. When we interviewed her she had five pigs for fattening and sale and 1 sow which will be giving birth in the next two days. She expected to have around 10-14 new-born piglets. The weight of her fully-grown fatteners can reach at least 85 kilograms and she can sell each for a competitive price of 90 Philippine pesos per kilo. She also has 1 water buffalo that her husband utilises for transport and cultivation of a rice field, although the land is not their property. Her husband works as a farm labourer who earns an income of 24,000 Philippine pesos a year. Her regular income, on the other hand; amounts to 1,700 Philippine pesos for every piglets sold and 2,000 Philippine pesos per fully-grown pig sold. She also receives 4,000 Philippine pesos extra money from her two working children in a monthly basis. She is happy that her family still manages to deal with their daily needs. The loans the she has availed from ASKI does helped her family a lot since before she only borrows from local moneylenders who charged her high interest rates. If given the opportunity, she would like to avail for another loan that she plans to use buying several sacks of rice so she could start being a rice dealer.
