Rebeca's businesses continues diversifying

Rebeca used to have a small grocery stall, two years ago she took out a loan and opened a small restaurant. She has taken out 7 loans and used them to buy supplies in bulk and 4 fridge-freezers to produce ice. Her daily income is 1100 pesos, 500 from food and 600 from ice. Rebeca’s restaurant is open every day from 3 am until 9 pm. She lives ten minutes away from her restaurant by motorbike. She begins cooking at 3 am and her first customers arrive around 5.30 am for breakfast. Labourers and drivers are her usual customers. Her restaurant is very popular. Rebecca has also recently opened a small outlet nearby for rice and corn distribution. She intends to run both businesses, with her sister managing the other outlet. Profit from the corn and rice is around 150 pesos per day, which Rebecca splits 50/50 with her sister. She says, “We are partners. I am the capital partner, my sister is the industrial partner.” Both Rebeca’s businesses are open 7 days a week. Rebeca is 35 years old. She has an 8 year old child who she raises alone. She hopes to put him through college. He currently wants to be a policeman, and Rebecca would like that for him. Rebeca says “Loans help a lot if they are used for the proper purpose, the exact purpose. I never divert my funds away from where they are intended to go.”
