Yoeurn Yat farming update

Yoeurn Yat farming update

Since Yoeurn and his wife got their loan to buy a hand tractor they have been able to use this hand tractor to plough their farm. They have already managed to plant dry season rice on three hectares of their rice paddy while wet season rice is being cultivated on another three hectares. Their wet season rice is of a very good quality and has already been growing successfully for about two months. It takes around six months before this wet season rice can be harvested to sell. In November they will be able to cultivate their wet season rice as long as they are not struck by any natural disasters such as flooding or drought. Yoeurn and his wife spend the majority of their time on their farm to ensure their rice is growing well. Since they bought their tractor to help with operations on their farm, they have been able to plough on time (they spent around six days ploughing their land this year) and have reduced their costs since they no longer need to rent a tractor from other villagers (the photograph shows Yoeurn's wife, Saroeurn).
