Farming

José Ignacio is a 23-year-old farmer who lives with his parents in the tropical region of Imbabura Province in northern Ecuador. From an early age, he learned agricultural skills from his parents, gaining experience in land preparation, planting and crop management. As his knowledge grew, he decided to establish and manage his own agricultural activities.

José lives in an area known for its rich agricultural production, diverse fruit cultivation and livestock farming. On a two-hectare family farm, he grows granadilla, a high-value fruit with strong market demand. Through dedication and careful farm management, he has developed a productive enterprise that contributes to his household's income.

Each year, José harvests two granadilla crops and produces approximately 490 boxes of fruit. His harvests are marketed locally, providing an important source of revenue and helping him build a sustainable livelihood through agriculture.

In addition to managing his own farm, José also works as an agricultural day labourer, generating supplementary income to support his household and strengthen his financial position. His willingness to work both on his own farm and for other producers demonstrates his commitment to improving his family's economic wellbeing.

To continue developing his agricultural activities, José has applied for a loan that he will use to purchase agricultural inputs and five young bulls for fattening. The agricultural inputs will help improve crop nutrition and support healthy granadilla production, while the livestock investment will allow him to establish a cattle-fattening enterprise alongside his existing farming activities.

By combining fruit production with livestock rearing, José hopes to diversify his sources of income, reduce dependence on a single activity and create greater financial stability. He believes that investing in both agriculture and livestock will strengthen the long-term sustainability of his business and create opportunities for future growth.

Looking ahead, José is committed to expanding his farming activities and increasing productivity. He hopes that the investment will not only improve his own income but also contribute to economic activity and employment opportunities within his community.
